The Story of How Our Business Began

Bob James started James Oil as a gas station in December 1947. Since that time, there have been many changes. Still, through all the years, James Oil has continued to be a small, family business dedicated to providing our customers with the best service possible through reliable delivery, competitive prices, excellent and quality service.

We don't use account numbers at James Oil. We try our best to make your business with James Oil as personal and friendly as possible.

Timeline of the Events

  • December 1947 - Started James Oil Co.
  • 1950 - Began tank wagon service
  • 1968 - Built office / warehouse
  • 1974 - Purchased the first tandem axle truck in Iowa
  • 1976 - Bob’s son, Scott, joins the company
  • 1978 - Purchased the first semi tanker
  • 2005 - Bob passes away
  • 2009 - Built new office / warehouse / shop
  • 2011 - Bought second tank wagon
  • 2012 - Bought second semi tanker
  • 2014 - Bought third semi tanker
  • 2021 - Purchased by Harms Oil
Since 1947 James Oil has been with Shell, Skelly, Getty, Texaco, and once again with Shell. Today we buy unbranded petroleum products. We have seven trucks, 10 employees and deliver throughout central Iowa. Call us today!
